”Awake My Soul” is a documentary by Atlanta’s Matt Hinton showing us that the oldest music in America is neither dying nor dead; it’s standing right in front of us.   Check out the trailer and website here.

Here is an excerpt from an email message sent to me by Matt Hinton himself:

“Also, mark Monday, Sept 22 on yer calendar. We will be having a pre-release party for the CD we have been working on for the past 2 years. It’s the soundtrack to our film as well as a second disc (Help Me to Sing) which includes Sacred Harp songs performed by various artists including:

Thanks for posting this. I’m a GA native but I’ve never heard of the Sacred Harp. I clicked on the link and listened to some of the music and its just beautiful. Its so simple and primitive compared to today’s modern music, but still amazing and it sounds so powerful. I’ll be sure to purchase the cd. Thanks again!

I love me some Matt Hinton and have been following this documentary from afar for some time now. I’m so excited about the fact that it’s finally going to be released!

I’m going to be there for sure!

Matt is a talented dude, fo sho. Looking forward to hearing this music. I know that Michael sang a song with Mac Powell on it. Here’s where MJ originally blogged about it: http://oneatlantamusic.com/256/
